Jazz Admin as a Service: 4 Key Questions

One of the new services ClearObject launched this year is our Jazz Admin as a Service (JAaaS) offering, which provides managed services with “an IBM Jazz purpose.” And not surprisingly, JAaaS has already gotten a lot of attention and the level of interest is picking up steam.

As I wrote in a previous blog post, three compelling reasons to use JAaaS are that it:

  • Allows IT systems administrators to offload tedious activities like onboarding users, managing permissions, creating projects, modifying process templates, and so on, letting you focus on more mission-critical tasks of the business.
  • Minimizes the impact to users, since ClearObject’s Jazz admins can schedule off-hours services. These services can range from being your point of contact for Sev 1 issues to upgrading your IBM Jazz applications. Our Jazz admins can also seamlessly integrate with your existing admins to support them.
  • Enables IT admins to make every effort to be proactive and plan ahead. With our Jazz admin as your frontline support, you’ll have more time to get your planning done and focus on the things that set your users up for success.

But in line with the interest JAaaS is generating, I’ve also gotten several questions from systems administrators who are currently in the Jazz camp. Among all the inquiries thus far, the following four key questions about Jazz Admin as a Service are representative of the larger Jazz admin community I’ve been talking with.

Q: If I don’t use my full allotment of hours, do hours roll over?

A: If hours aren’t utilized, you can roll-over up to 10 service hours from one month to the next. For example, if you have signed up for 40 hours, but only use 30, those 10 remaining hours can be rolled over to the next month. We will also monitor your usage to provide better ways to get the full benefit of your hours month-to-month.

Q: What happens if my designated Jazz Admin is unavailable?

A: We designate a primary Admin plus backup Admins, along with a named Service Delivery Manager to manage escalations and special requests.

Q: What happens if I have a special project coming up that requires additional work hours?

A: Sometimes our customers experience a surge in project work that exceeds their committed service tier. Our Service Delivery Managers have access to a large team of skilled engineers and can also arrange for additional muscle when you need it.

Q: Is this a 24/7 service?

A: Our Jazz Admins are available during standard local business hours. After-hours planned work can be accommodated with advanced notice on a best effort basis. We will work with you to ensure that your distributed groups have coverage during their standard business hours.
